Meet the B Corps: How These Huckletree Members Are Redefining Business for Good

In a world where business success is increasingly measured not just by profit margins but by positive impact, B Corp certification has emerged as the gold standard for companies committed to balancing purpose and profit. At Huckletree, we're proud to be B Corp certified since 2023, and to house a growing community of certified B Corps who are leading the charge in their respective industries.

We sat down with three of our member businesses, Energylab, Big Mamma, and High-Rise Communications, to learn about their B Corp journeys, what motivated them to pursue certification, and how it's transforming their businesses from the inside out.

Energylab: Pioneering Sustainability in Building Services

Energylab, Members of Huckletree Liverpool Street, is a forward-thinking building services and sustainability consultancy. With extensive expertise in both design and project management across diverse sectors, we are committed to integrating circular economy principles that support a fair and sustainable life for all.

When did you become a B Corp?

We became an accredited B Corp on 27th June 2022, which made us the first building services consultancy to join the movement.

What motivated Energylab to pursue B Corp certification?

Marian felt that the B Corp accreditation encapsulated the very principles that she built Energylab on and presented us with an opportunity to showcase our strengths and join a network of other likeminded businesses across the built environment sector.

How has being part of the B Corp community benefited your business beyond the certification itself?

The B impact assessment itself has given us an excellent framework by which to measure, track and improve our business operation across all five B Corp pillars. It has provided networking opportunities for us to share best practice and learn from others who are equally committed to using their business as a force for good.

Big Mamma: Redefining Hospitality with Purpose

Big Mamma, Members of Huckletree Soho, is a team of 2,200 passionate people behind 27 unique restaurants in Europe - including Pink Mamma and the 4,500m2 food market La Felicità in Paris, Gloria, their first trattoria in the UK, and the latest exciting venture in Belgium, Barracuda in Brussels. They work directly with 170 producers, constantly exploring new areas of Italian cuisine with each opening, from pizzas to excellent meats from across the boot. Each trattoria has its own ambiance and everything is homemade from the fresh pasta to the creamy gelato.

When did you become a B Corp?

Big Mamma has been proudly B Corp certified since 2018, actually, it was the first restaurant group in Europe to get the certification!

What motivated Big Mamma to pursue B Corp certification?

From day one, Big Mamma has been all about making a real impact. We built this group on strong values - meritocracy, excellence, entrepreneurship, and authenticity - with people and the planet always at the heart of what we do. The B Corp movement pushed us to go even further, constantly improving our social and environmental impact and rethinking hospitality for the better.

How has being part of the B Corp community benefited your business beyond the certification itself?

Being a B Corp keeps us inspired and on track to make a real difference. This certification is a daily guide that shapes everything we do, from the produce we source to how we use energy and support our employees. It's also helped us build a strong company culture, attracting people who share our values and want to be part of a business that puts people and the planet first. And at the end of the day, it all comes back to our mission: changing lives with pizza!

High-Rise Communications: Strategic Communication with Social Purpose

High-Rise Communications is a strategic communications agency based in Huckletree Ancoats, Manchester. Services include PR, reputation management, crisis communications and media training. High-Rise's clients include national and regional charities, technology-for-good platforms, healthcare organisations, hospices, social movements, social enterprises, impact investment specialists and more.

When did you become a B Corp?

We became B Corp in October 2024.

What motivated High-Rise Communications to pursue B Corp certification?

The reason why we decided to become B Corp was due to the nature of the clients we were dealing with anyway – it seemed like a bit of a gap not to be B Corp when we work with so many charities and other organisations helping to build stronger communities.

How has being part of the B Corp community benefited your business beyond the certification itself?

Beyond certification, B Corp has helped with culture and making sure all the team are contributing to and thinking about how we develop High-Rise and make it a better place to work. We're also taking part in B Corp initiatives as part of creating social value through our business model, such as a community skills share in Manchester that's coming up in a few weeks.

The B Corp Movement: Business as a Force for Good

These three Huckletree members represent just a small sample of the growing B Corp members within our spaces. What unites them is a shared commitment to using business as a force for positive change. From building services and sustainability consultancy to hospitality and strategic communications, these companies are proving that purpose and profit can go hand in hand.

At Huckletree, we're proud to support and celebrate our B Corp members who are leading the way in their industries. Their stories inspire us and remind us that business can be a powerful tool for creating the world we want to live in.

Together, we're building a more inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economic system. One business at a time.
